An unusual number of cases of A2 influenza are expected to appear during the 1967 to 1968 season, particularly in the eastern United States. Immunization is recommended by the U. S. Public Health Service for chronically ill patients (those with cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal, and metabolic disorders, including Addison's disease and diabetes mellitus), patients in institutions (nursing homes, chronic disease hospitals), and persons over age 45.
Immunization should begin as soon as possible after October 1 for persons not vaccinated since July 1963 and be completed by early December. These persons should receive an initial dose of bivalent vaccine (adults and
