The surgical approach to the patient with an acute abdomen and various other acute problems that may be encountered in the daily practice of medicine are excellently presented by an outstanding group of contributors from the Veterans Administration Hospitals. Each subject is discussed by a recognized authority in the field; however, as might be expected in a work of this scope, this leads to the overlapping of discussions. Although the addenda after each chapter do not particularly add to the continuity of the book, occasionally they are more extensive and verbose than the chapter itself.
