Within the compass of his short monograph, Dr. Segre manages to bring light and order into a highly confusing area of medicine. He does so mainly by focusing down on the central issue, that is, the level of plasma testosterone, while not neglecting to present comprehensive summaries of the more limited and ambiguous information obtainable from other aspects of androgenic function. He develops the physiology of normal androgen metabolism and its regulation from first principles, emphasizing the differences between secretion, production, and excretion of testosterone and of its precursors and products. Major relevant experimental studies are presented and references provided;
