Dr. Robb-Smith, Director of Pathology of the United Oxford Hospitals, was involved in preparing the sixth revision (1948) of the International List of Causes of Death. His thesis in the present book is that the apparent "epidemic" of ischemic heart disease (IHD) is primarily a result of changing practices of disease classification and, to a degree, of changes in the age structure of the population.
