Ballistocardiographers the world over have long and impatiently awaited the completion by Isaac Starr of a record of his investigations and the views he has formulated. They have done so because Starr stands so uniquely at the top of workers in ballistocardiography. Additionally, Starr and the junior author are in an equally unique position to put in proper perspective the vast controversial and at times highly technical literature that has accumulated.
The selection of Dr. Noordergraaf as the junior author was a most fortunate one, for he has brought to ballistocardiography great competence in the biomedical engineering field. His physical
