The rapid growth of renal transplantation, due in large measure to Prof. Calne's own pioneer work with thiopurine drugs for immunosuppression, has required almost complete revision of his monograph. Much old material has been pruned and replaced with newer information acquired during the 4 years since the appearance of the first edition. The result is a discerning review of the experimental and clinical development of renal transplantation, made all the more valuable by inclusion of critical observations from Prof. Calne's own vast experience.
The remarkable improvement in clinical renal transplantation since publication of the first edition is attributed by Prof.
