The author of this volume has been very active in calling attention to the value of surgical removal of the thrombus in acute thrombosis of the iliofemoral vein. Circumstances permitted the reviewer to read this monograph in one session, so that the defects of the writing—poor organization, frequent repetitions, and occasional contradictory statements—became all too apparent. The account of actual procedure of thrombectomy is of value, but this was equally well dealt with in the author's papers published 3 years ago. Follow-up studies on postthrombectomy patients are meager, and a discrepancy between the figures in table and text (p. 107)
