The increasing age of our population and the frequent complication of pulmonary disease make this book especially pertinent. It is 1 of a series of 12 in clinical anesthesia that have been published since 1963. There are 15 contributors representing not only anesthesiologists but also internists, physiologists, and directors of respiratory units.
The various sections of the book are well-written and -coordinated. The sections on pathophysiology and mechanisms affecting ventilation and perfusion do not carry the great detail frequently associated with most respiratory physiology texts, but yet they are pertinent and to the point. There are also sections dealing with
