Dr. Bamforth has written a cytological diagnosis text of particular interest for internists. His concentration on the cytology of effusions is especially welcome to the general diagnostician, since much unnecessary surgery can be avoided by a proper attention to cytological methods. The author is modest and factual in his discussion of the problems of cytological methods and their accuracy. His references to the literature reflect deep scholarship and a long-sustained interest in cytological methods together with a judicious and practical approach to points of unsettled discussion.
