Thirty-five papers, read at a symposium held in Philadelphia, concerned with normal anatomy and physiology of the kidney, pathophysiology of renal failure, and clinical aspects of acute and chronic renal failure. This collection has the uneven qualities of many symposium-derived publications. Some papers are relatively fresh in content; others are rehashes of what their authors have said and written better elsewhere many times. Some papers are detailed; others are cursory. Some of the illustrations (chest X rays, tissue sections, etc.) are third-rate. This collection is cheaper than most major current textbooks on renal disease but is no bargain in view
