Dr. Slonim has compiled a working manual in which commonly performed procedures are described in one convenient, small volume. His book is aimed primarily at the medical technologist, and basic physiologic concepts are presented at an elementary level. As expected in a manual of this sort, there are some omissions, for example, lack of discussion of equipment and techniques for measurement of intravascular pressures. A simple but clear discussion of indicator dilution methods for cardiac output is included, but there is no description of the forward-triangle method of calculation or the use of these curves for shunt calculation.
