A study of 15 young patients with known or suspected coronary atherosclerosis by a combined metabolic-angiographic protocol is reported. Among 10 patients with coronary disease proved by angiography, 5 had type IV hyperlipoproteinemia. Early changes in triglyceride levels and pre-beta lipoprotein, which occur 2 to 7 days after start of 85% carbohydrate diet, appear useful in the diagnosis of type IV hyperlipoproteinemia.
