Once again Dr. Cope has prepared a good text that very satisfactorily covers the physical examination of the abdomen for the acute problems that may arise within it. The emphasis is on diagnosis from a history and physical standpoint resulting in limited reference to the use of supporting diagnostic aids. Despite precautionary statements, an impression is obtained from the marked orientation to surgery that it is better to be wrong through laparotomy than to misdiagnose by history and physical examination alone. Very little reference is made to the potential problems resulting from operation in error. More comment might have been
