In writing a review of this monograph, the writer feels something like what a modern rock guitarist must experience when asked to write a critique of the Beethoven Ninth. The authors, particularly Dr. Stout, have taught the world most of what it knows concerning the subject. Anyone disagreeing with the conclusions of these authors is apt to find himself labeled a brash upstart who would do better to mind his manners.
