Renal histologic changes were studied by biopsy in eight patients with Sjögren's syndrome and at autopsy in one. Renal lesions consistent with interstitial nephritis were present in six of the patients, each of whom had proteinuria. On the basis of the reported findings and review of the literature, it is suggested that interstitial nephritis may be the principal renal lesion in Sjögren's syndrome.
