This, the seventh edition of a "classic" textbook, is a tribute to the energy of Dr. Major and to the loyalty of his co-editors. It is also an anachronism.
The basic text retains the elements of earlier editions: verbose descriptions of obscure signs, numerous ancient photographs of advanced diseases, and a plethora of naive "how-to-do-it" illustrations. The revised portions include a rather impractical section on the diagnostic process, a gallery of skin lesions, and a brief summary of clinical endocrinology. In short, like most other physical diagnosis "classics," this book is outmoded, overly descriptive, and much too long.
