During the past 15 years literally thousands of clinical and laboratory reports of various aspects of serotonin and its role in carcinoid disease have been published. The volume of this pool of information and the new and often provocative conflicting concepts continually being added to it are formidable and sometimes confusing to the practitioner as well as to the researcher. Several very comprehensive, encyclopedic books dealing with serotonin have been published in the past few years and are each four or five times as lengthy as the volume reviewed here.
