Dr. Smith's purpose in preparation of his book was to gather known facts about cervical spondylosis as a cause of symptoms, to stress areas of inadequate knowledge, and to assess therapeutic measures. He has succeeded admirably. This critical monograph is concerned with "hard" lesions arising from degeneration of the intervertebral joints, including disks, together with associated bony spurring. "Soft disk" disease (prolapse of nucleus pulposus) is excluded from the mainstream but is discussed in differential diagnosis.
The book opens with a penetrating chapter of functional anatomy, including much recent material. Internists will find the discussion of the blood supply of
