The editor states in his forward that the authors intend to "present the mechanism and management of hepatocerebral degeneration . . ." in a way that "substitutes facts for appearances and demonstrations for impression, with a new audacity of imagination." The only audacity or imagination apparent to this reviewer was the decision of the editor to publish this monograph in its present form. It is intended as a review of the pathophysiology, morphology, and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy. As such, it is badly written, uncritical, and not current.
