Using a scintillation camera modified for audio-video tape recording and subsequent replay during selected time periods, the course of an intravenously injected radioactive bolus through the heart and lungs may be delineated. If the radioactive signal is large but not too high in energy and the injected bolus is small, the resolution of the resulting image is very good. These requirements are met by injecting 10 mc of 99mTc-petechnetate, a radiopharmaceutical that has a short half-life (6 hr) and ideal physical characteristics for scintillography.
