A potent, new antihemophilic (AHF) (factor VIII) concentrate has been prepared from human plasma by precipitation with glycine and polyethylene glycol. This material is from 100 to 400 times purified and contains from 30 to 100 units of AHF activity/ml. This glycine-precipitated material has been shown to be stable and effective when used in the treatment of patients with hemophilia A.
The concentrate was prepared by large-scale fractionation of human plasma. The starting material for a batch was pooled cryoprecipitate obtained from 200 to 500 bottles of citrated human plasma (whole blood drawn into 4% citrate). Pooled cryoprecipitate was redissolved,
