During the past 30 years antithromboembolic therapy has been the subject of very comprehensive investigations and critical evaluation. The drugs involved have been used in a great variety of conditions for both preventative and therapeutic purposes. There has been clarification as to the indications, contraindications, and debatable areas. New developments have maintained interest at a high level. This presentation includes a review of the present status and emphasizes especially the data from recent studies that have demonstrated that adequate dosage levels are essential to satisfactory results and that dosage must be carefully monitored when other medications are either added to
