Three examples of death due to noninfectious aortic insufficiency in a series of 52 patients who had systemic lupus erythematosus are described. Aortic-wall disease was also present. Marked valve-leaflet thinning and central perforations were seen without verrucous endocarditis in two patients at autopsy.
