The author of this monograph is a well-known English physician and microbiologist based at the Brompton Institute of Diseases of the Chest. His book is a highly personal account of factors that influence the course of chronic bronchitis and of antibiotics that can be applied in the treatment of this condition. The role of Haemophilus influenzae is emphasized.
The use of British pharmaceutical terms in this book is only one of the reasons why it is not recommended for the general American reader. Other reasons are the onesidedness of the views expressed and an occasional murkiness of the prose.
