As a practical guide for the management of common pain problems, Dr. Finneson's book has many desirable features. Although reasonably comprehensive, the text is concise and quite suitable for easy reference by the busy physician. The style is lucid, and the descriptive material is greatly enhanced by an abundance of useful illustrations. Above all the author is practical in his approach and explicit in details of therapy, as in his accounts of specific techniques of local nerve blocks.
A deficiency of the book is its inadequate treatment of basic principles. Few of the recent advances in pain physiology are discussed,
