This German publication is not so much a "Primer" as stated in its title, but, rather, a quite comprehensive and detailed one-volume handbook on antibiotics—chemistry, modes of action, doses, dosage forms, side reactions, and so forth. The first two thirds reviews major and minor antibiotics by conventional classes; the last one third of the book outlines antibiotic therapy for specific infections. Because the trade names and sources described are German, this handbook will have very little value for the American clinician, even if he reads German readily.
