The editors' precise statement of policy for the Progress series is "to provide authoritative, discriminating summaries of information for hematologists." Several of the 10 topics reviewed will be of interest far beyond this limited audience. For instance the discussion of "Immunosuppression" by Charles W. Parker and John D. Vavra is a monograph in itself. In a penetrating and detailed manner they develop the sequence of the immune response, consider tolerance, and then discuss broadly the approach to immunosuppression in a fashion that makes the volume of value to clinicians generally.
