The contents of this slim volume fall far short of the promise contained in its title.
The text includes seven chapters, a page of conclusions, twenty-two figures, and ten tables. Chapter I deals with "The disease and its incidence." Chapters II to VII are concerned with etiology, diagnosis, treatment, course, and prognosis.
The volume is a fairly complete review of the British and American literature, interspersed with comments, case histories, and statistics from the author's experience. The material is presented in a rambling fashion, moving back and forth between comments from the literature and the author's opinions and case reports.
