It is a pleasure, indeed, to encounter a comprehensive book that can be read as easily as this one. The chapters by the editors and 11 other authors compose a whole that embraces the early history, the clinical symptoms and signs, laboratory findings, epidemiology, and pathogenesis of infectious mononucleosis. Of special note is an excellent chapter on experimental studies relating to the atypical mononuclear cells in infectious mononucleosis and another on the histopathology of the disease. These areas are fully developed, in contrast with Hoagland's treatise on the subject with which this volume will inevitably be compared. The chapter by
