The broad field of pulmonary disease is of great interest to most practitioners. The field deals with infection—both acute and chronic—granulomas of known and unknown cause, neoplasia, and diseases of industrial origin and immunological connotations, as well as the vast problems of chronic airway obstruction, asthma, and many diseases of unknown cause affecting both the young and old. Therefore, there is a great need for a reference source available under one cover that can give contemporary information, including descriptions of diseases and their management, and provide a gateway to the important contemporary literature for further reading.
