The search for the biochemical mechanisms responsible for the development of atherosclerosis has recently led to extensive studies of the metabolism of vascular tissue. Dr. Kirk, who has made many contributions in this field, has compiled a comprehensive review of the various enzyme activities that have been observed in human and animal vascular tissue. Arranged in the sequence suggested by the Commission on Enzymes of the International Union of Biochemistry, the 98 enzyme activities that have been measured in vascular tissue are systematically described with appropriate and complete annotation. The activity of each enzyme in various blood vessels is compared
