In rheumatology there is a choice between two major texts. One, reviewed here, is English, and the other is published in the United States. Both are multiauthored and cover much the same ground in a thorough and comprehensive fashion. For one familiar with the subspecialty, the list of authors of the two books almost comprises a "Who's Who in World Rheumatology." New editions of the two books have appeared alternatively at intervals of 2 to 5 years.
