Two female patients, ages 10 and 17, with primary renal resistance to parathyroid hormone and osteitis fibrosa were studied. The clinical picture is characterized by biochemical and clinical hypoparathyroidism but also osteitis fibrosa. Neither patient had somatic manifestations of pseudohypoparathyroidism. In both patients there was renal resistance to parathyroid hormone. Urinary cyclic adenosine monophosphate (AMP) excretion was measured in one patient and failed to increase after the administration of parathyroid hormone. There were elevated plasma levels of parathyroid hormone as determined by radioimmunoassay in both patients.
