A distinctive pattern of rate-limiting enzyme activity for both anerobic and aerobic cycles of celluler metabolism in each class of hyperlipemia defined by Fredrickson as Normal, II, and IV was suspected and investigated.
Fifteen patients under the age of 60 with arteriosclerotic coronary artery heart disease and myocardial infarction were removed from medication for 21 days and had skeletal muscle biopsy and erythrocytes collected. The patients were classified by measuring the plasma total lipid, triglyceride, cholesterol, and lipoprotein electrophoresis.
