The Fanconi syndrome in adults is generally associated with multiple myeloma, amyloidosis, hyperglobulinemia, and nephrotoxic metals and drugs. This report described a generalized defect in proximal tubular function in a nephrotic patient with membranous glomerulonephritis. A 65-year-old man was admitted with an 8-year history of mild proteinuria and a 3-month history of edema progressing to anasarca. He had heavy proteinuria (8 to 9 g/day), hypoalbuminemia (1.2 g/100 ml), and renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance, 16 ml/min).
