An entire volume devoted to a single disease would in general not seem to have wide appeal. Most such works are so inclusive as to be of little use to those seeking a distillate of practical knowledge. They come rather to be regarded as a miniature reference work and soon become of historical interest or, if carefully done, a classic.
The book by Goligher, de Dombal, Watts, and Watkinson is a notable exception to this general criticism. The authors have tempered their own extensive experience sufficiently with the published experience of others that the result is a comprehensive yet useful
