A novel "textbook": a large anthology of recent journal papers that, in sum, cover all major areas of general surgery. Each reprinted paper (photo-reproduction of original version) is followed by an "overview" or commentary with annotated references to other pertinent and recent papers. The short opening essays by R. L. Varco, R. H. Egdahl, and J. A. Mannick discuss problems and ways of learning from journal literature.
The objectives and plan of this book should get the attention of those teachers in internal medicine and directors of medical education who are concerned with the best use of the best resources
