On the back of the dust cover of this volume appears the statement "This book has been written to provide basic information to all engaged in public health work in any part of the world." The scope of modern public health is so great that it is difficult to imagine one volume attempting to cover the wide ranging areas that differ so much in technical ways and even in philosophy.
