Readability and simplicity are attributes of this book; however, I doubt whether it is a useful or worthwhile source of information for medical students or anyone else. The authors attempt to describe the clinical manifestations, pathophysiology, methods of diagnosis, and treatment of over 30 infectious disease entities in less than 200 pages. Unfortunately, in order to be this concise the authors are extremely dogmatic in certain areas. This is particularly evident in the recommendations for treatment. Furthermore, there are no references. The book is specifically directed toward the British medical student, which limits its usefulness to others. For example, some
