The 1969 annual reports of tuberculin retesting for Navy and Marine Corps units assigned to the Republic of Vietnam are summarized. Of 79,584 men tested, 791 were reported as "converters" of purified protein derivative S. This is approximately a 0.99% annual conversion rate, which is well below the 5% annual conversion rate recommended as an indication for institution of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine. Under present conditions secondary chemoprophylaxis with isoniazid will remain the control method for Navy and Marine Corps personnel.
