There are few diseases or medical conditions that are peculiar to the adolescent age group. As any physician who has treated a teenager with diabetes or a convulsive disorder knows, it is the adolescent's reaction to his illness, his adjustment problems, and his behavioral disorders that often make him a difficult patient to understand and to treat. The author has attempted to provide the clinician with basic information concerning disorders most commonly encountered in this age group, as well as to impart some of his own philosophical approach to treating the teenage population.
