To the editor: I wish to comment on the editorial "Emotional Disorders in Medical Practice" in the October 1970 issue of the ANNALS. As one who has been concerned with the problem of the liaison of medicine and psychiatry for the past 20 years and who finally solved it by officially entering the specialty of psychiatry, in my experience the best method is that of the doctor treating the patient himself after becoming conversant with some of the basic aspects of psychotherapy. The physician will of course refer the more difficult cases to a psychiatrist, who should then determine which
