When a popular medical textbook becomes out-dated, the usual procedure for the author and his publisher is to bring out a new edition. Additions to knowledge and suitable deletions roughly cancel each other out, thus ensuring that the book does not grow to unwieldy proportions. Dr. Hudson, in Volume 3 of his well-known monograph on the pathology of cardiovascular disease, has departed from this standard procedure: he has retained the existing Volumes 1 and 2 exactly as they were published in 1965, and all new material, culled from the literature in the ensuing 5 years, has been placed in Volume
