Knowledge of the anatomy and functions of the spleen has advanced considerably during the past decade. It is appropriate that this knowledge should be digested and integrated in readily accessible texts. This seems now to have been accomplished in two recent issues from Springer press. Die Milz, a volume of nearly 1,000 pages in the series Handbuch der mikroscopischen Anatomie des Menschen (1969), presents a detailed account of the histology of the spleen. A more recent release, Die Milz/The Spleen, primarily reviews recent concepts of functions and pathology of the spleen. Die Milz/The Spleen stems from the 1969 symposium of
