To the editor: In the case study, "Pseudogout with Low Values of Alkaline Phosphatase in the Synovial Fluid," by Yaron and associates in the ANNALS (73:751-756, 1970), the authors state that a white blood count was done on the synovial fluid using hydrochloric acid as a diluent. When using hydrochloric acid as a diluent, the hyaluronate present precipitates out, rendering the white count unobtainable.
