The long-awaited comprehensive treatise on the morphologic pathology of the gastrointestinal tract has finally been published. The authors present a comparative study, in six sections, of the radiologic, gross, and microscopic features of lesions encountered from esophagus to anus. The text is outstanding for its concise and lucid style, but their book has several serious shortcomings. Although the quality of the radiographs is usually good and occasionally excellent, the quality of most of the photomicrographs and an occasional gross photograph is extremely poor, so poor in some instances that no intelligent conclusions can be drawn from the illustration.
