This is a thin book about fat. Functionally, it serves as an update of the Handbook of Physiology, Section Five: Adipose Tissue, published in 1965, which was an exhaustive tour de force. Although this supplement is much more modest than the earlier book, it nonetheless serves to bring au courant this rapidly changing area of interest. The book is dedicated to Earl Sutherland whose exposition of cyclic adenosine monophosphate and its regulatory importance underlies nearly every article.
Included in the attractively presented 212 pages are 37 articles in English from authors of various nationalities. The areas covered range from structural
