No one can doubt a need for the dissemination of accurate information to medical practitioners concerning the variations and peculiarities of cardiovascular physiology and disease among the elderly. Great differences in the problems of pediatric cardiology and adult cardiology have produced a logical division of these into fairly well defined subspecialty entities. Only recently has appreciation been sufficiently widespread that the principles guiding adult cardiology, as we understand it, cannot be routinely and uniformly applied to the elderly.
