The review of any new pharmacology text would customarily seem primarily a labor of effort. Accustomed to the conventional textbooks of therapeutics, one would expect to have to survey a classical and oppressively lengthy text, as well as frequent portions of small-type minutiae intended in part to satisfy the captious reviewer. This was not the case with the second edition of Sutherland's contribution (one wonders why the 11-year hiatus between editions), which is appropriately intitled "A Synopsis of Pharmacology."
