To the editor: I have read with great interest the editorial by Dr. Schmale on the serologic detection of gonorrhoea (Ann Intern Med 72:593-595, 1970) and the need for a rapid, inexpensive, epidemiological screening test. I would like to add the following comments to the communication of Dr. Schmale.It is of great importance in all the suggested tests for the serodiagnosis of gonorrhoea that the specificity of the test be very high, with minimum cross-reactivity to antibodies evoked by other bacteria, such as meningococci and staphylococci.
